The Safest Truck in the World   Toyota SAS: The World's first dynamic safety system   Tonero+ Safety

Even the most skilled and experienced operators can be momentarily distracted or affected by fatigue. Toyota’s unique System of Active Stability (SAS) acts as extra eyes and ears, constantly monitoring critical factors such as speed, load and body roll and taking preventive action before an accident occurs. An example is the way SAS prevents a truck from over turning. If the operator turns too sharply at too great a speed the rear swing lock cylinder locks rigid causing the truck to skid rather than topple over.

The two greatest factors in forklift accidents are undoubtedly operator error and fatigue. Toyota believes that superior ergonomics play a vital role in reducing accidents. When an operator is fatigued, concentration levels falls and accidents are more likely to occur. Reduce operator fatigue and you increase safety (and productivity).

Of the six reported incidents involving a SAS equipped truck five were caused by serious driver errors (a lack of training) and one by a tyre failure. No other forklift has such an impressive safety record.

If you still feel the need for additional features, the Tonero+ formula offers an advanced travel control safety system:

  • Speed limitation and controlled acceleration with load at height.

  • Programmable speed limiter.

  • Load weight indicator.

  • Fact:

  • Introduced in 1999, there are now over 104,000 Toyota forklift trucks operating in Britain and the United States equipped with the System of Active StabilityTM (SAS). This makes up over 12% of the British counterbalance market, and approximately 8% of the US counterbalance market.
  • Fact:

  • In Britain there have been no reported lateral tip over of trucks fitted with SAS, and although there have been six in the US, none of these resulted in fatalities. This is out of an SAS truck population of more that 94,000, which in turn clocked up more than 400 million hours of operation.
  • Fact:

  • Accident statistics in the US show that there were 118 fatalities due to forklift tip over, averaging 23 deaths per year. None of those deaths occurred where the operator had the protection of Toyota’s SAS.
